Matt Fisher
City Council, District 1
Born to Run best describes City Council candidate Matt Fisher.
All business by day (he’s an Information Security Architect in the finance industry), Matt spends his evenings and weekends putting endurance to the test. As a runner and triathlete, he has participated in six marathons, one 50-kilometer race, two half-ironman triathlons, and several sprint triathlons.
Pounding the sidewalks, roads, and trails around Goshen solidified Matt’s love for Maple City’s parks, trails, and neighborhoods. Cruising around town on foot also opened his eyes to some of the community’s most significant needs.

“Our kids grew up in Goshen taking part in many parks department programs, sports and events, and activities. It was a huge part of our lives. It was a wonderful experience raising our kids here. I want to ensure future Goshen parents have access to the same healthy resources that Amy and I did.”
Matt Fisher
City Council, District 1
Matt’s work and education have focused on protecting the public through financial security. In his current role, he designed, built, and maintained the security system required to protect his organization from threats. Protecting public assets spurred his interest in working in city government.
Matt is a Goshen Community Schools alumni who attended Bluffton University, earning a B.A. in Computer Science and Physics. Matt later earned his CISSP (Certified Information Security Systems Professional).
Family Life
Matt and his wife Amy have three sons – two of whom are graduates of Goshen Community Schools and a third, a junior at Goshen High School. Accompanying his kids’ involvement in Goshen Park’s activities inspired him to run for public service.
As a member of the Goshen Community Schools RedHawk Advocates and a board treasurer for Goshen Swimming, Inc., Matt is keenly interested in supporting public education and youth access to health and fitness.
Matt’s Council Priorities
Vibrancy
The good work and dedicated effort of a lot of people has helped Goshen grow over the past 20 years. This is an inclusive and caring community; a community that celebrates diversity, the arts, and strong neighborhoods. My goal as District 1 Councilman will be to do whatever I can to continue moving Goshen along this positive, vibrant trajectory.
Sustainable Growth
My experience within the finance industry has taught me the importance of long-term financial planning — plan the work, and work the plan is always a crucial approach. I also believe other factors like housing, traffic patterns, bike and pedestrian access, and environmental resilience all play a part in achieving sustainable growth.
Business Retention
Working together, we can continue to bring new businesses to Goshen that provide jobs and careers for the hard-working people in our community. That is always going to be a priority, and I believe we can bring in businesses that provide quality opportunities and demonstrate a strong committment to diversity.
Parks
I intend to support and strengthen the park department programs offered to residents of Goshen. I want to ensure that all Goshen families have access to healthy resources. Access to both indoor and outdoor recreation programs and facilities is an essential component of quality of life for our community.
